EM1D

An overview of the module
EM1D

Giving multiplicity of phenomena at stake during a marine Controlled-Source Electromagnetic acquisition (mCSEM) between geometric, galvanic and inductive effects, every mCSEM project requires a feasibility study to evaluate the electromagnetic response of the most-likely subsurface resistivity layering, giving an indication of whether or not the target HC reservoir could be detected.

A tabular medium (1D) modeling algorithm is normally always used since it is fast and provides sensitivity analysis. EM1D module has been designed to offer that functionality.

Before going into feasibility survey, the video below could help first to better understand mCSEM and physical mechanism at stake. It has been recorded by the EAGE in collaboration with EarthQuick. The idea is to explain simply in 20' on what relies marine Controlled Source Electromagnetics.

Some key abilities of EM1D are quoted below:

  • User-friendly interface to design subsurface models,
  • Frequencies, offsets and target resistivities screening,
  • Responses Normalization,
  • Ambient noise modeling,
  • Pulse shape design,
  • Well logs visualization,
  • Save/open models.
